How to play SeqX

SeqX is a free online connect 5 card game for iOS and Android. You play cards from your hand to place chips on a 10×10 board, racing to connect 5 in a row before your opponent. The rules take two minutes to learn — the strategy takes much longer to master.

The rules

How SeqX works, step by step

01

The objective

SeqX is a connect 5 card game played on a 10×10 board. Each space on the board shows a playing card. Your goal is simple: be the first player to connect 5 chips in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — to complete a sequence.

02

Setup

Each player is dealt a hand of cards from a standard deck. The board has two of every card (except Jacks) spread across its 100 spaces. Four corner spaces are free — any player may place a chip there at any time without playing a card.

03

How each turn works

On your turn, choose one card from your hand and place it face-up in your discard pile. Then place one of your chips on the matching space on the board. Draw a new card from the deck to refill your hand to the starting count. Play passes to the next player.

04

Jack cards — the wild cards

Two-eyed Jacks are wild. Play one to place your chip on any open space on the board — no matching card required. One-eyed Jacks are sabotage. Play one to remove an opponent's chip from any space on the board. Mastering when to use each Jack is the core skill that separates beginners from advanced players.

05

Completing a sequence

Five chips in a row — horizontal, vertical, or diagonal — is a sequence. In 2-player games, the first player to complete one sequence wins. Corner spaces count as any player's chip, so building through corners is a valid and powerful strategy.

06

Dead cards

If you hold a card whose both board spaces are already occupied by chips, it's a dead card. Discard it face-up on your turn and draw a replacement. You don't place a chip on that turn.

Connect 5 strategy tips

Understanding the rules gets you started. These habits win games.

Control the center

The center of the board gives your chips the most directions to extend. A chip in the middle can contribute to sequences in all four directions simultaneously.

Use corners intentionally

Free corner spaces count for any player. Rushing to anchor a sequence through a corner before your opponent can lock you out is a high-value opening move.

Save your two-eyed Jacks

Wild placements are most valuable when you need a specific space to complete or extend a sequence. Don't burn them early on generic placements you could reach with a normal card.

Disrupt with one-eyed Jacks

A one-eyed Jack is rarely wasted. Remove the chip that's blocking two of your opponent's sequences at once — force them to replay that card while you advance your own board.

Build multiple lines simultaneously

A single sequence threat is easy to block. Two overlapping threats — where completing one also advances another — are nearly impossible to stop. Always be building in two directions.

What makes SeqX different

A connect 5 card game built for mobile multiplayer

SeqX is a free connect 5 card game that brings the classic board game format to mobile with online multiplayer built in from the start. Unlike physical sequence card games that require all players to be in the same room, SeqX lets you challenge friends or get matched with opponents worldwide instantly.

The core mechanic — playing a card from your hand to place a chip on the matching board space — is easy to grasp in your first game. What makes competitive play deep is the interplay between the two Jack card types, the dual-copy layout of the board, and the geometry of blocking versus advancing.

SeqX is free to download with no paywalled game modes. Earn up to 250 SX coins daily by watching short ads — enough to unlock cosmetics without spending a cent. The full connect 5 multiplayer experience is available to every player from the first install.
